All right so all that unlocking of stages and so forth in Capcom vs. SNK 2 on PS2 was really to get everything available for the mode that I think will be the most fun for me to keep trying, namely VS MODE, specifically, Vs. the CPU.

You have to do the old thing of plugging in a second controller and picking the CPU's characters with it, after changing the VS opponent from Human to CPU in Options, all of which is kind of a pain--you'd think a game this late in the day would have a proper Vs. CPU mode, but not really...--but once you get down to the actual playing, the unpredictable teams and instant challenge kind of hit that sweet spot for me, I think.

To set up the random teams, first you can press Start to have it cycle rapidly through the Grooves--then press a different button (I think--Start again seemed to keep picking the same one, maybe I was just getting unlucky) to pick a more or less random one.

Then I use a random generator -- this one I made for myself ages ago, but really any would do: http://paleface.net/cgi-bin/roll.pl?c=Roll&dice=3 -- to get the team sizes (1 to 3 characters). The [?] on the character select grid picks the random characters (things get a little out of shape if it turns out to be one of the overpowered supered-up types, like I got God Rugal (18:43) in one of these matches, that ended quickly ;_;), then I hold left or right for a while on the ratio setting part before pushing a button, to get a more or less random ratio distribution. Pick up the other controller and repeat all that for the CPU's side and whew, now you can go fight a match! : P

Well it goes pretty quick once you get used to it.

I started the matches at difficulty 5/8, ending up at 7/8 by the end, to my surprise. : P 7 is quite a bit tougher than 6, though, so that may last me a while--and I suppose there's always the final, handicap adjustment, should I somehow get too good for straight difficulty 8 some day.

So, in the end: fun crazy matches! Let's go CvS2!

Recorded using a PS2 to Framemeister to Elgato HD60.
