The KO #60 - well dang I guess I like Real Bout 2 : o (PS2)
I really like Real Bout Fatal Fury, but the follow-up, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, I'm not so hot on. So I went into the next sequel, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 - The Newcomers, thinking I wouldn't like it much either...but I found that I do! It keeps the cartoonier character sprites that debuted in Special, which in some cases I don't like as much as the older sprites from Real Bout, BUT 2 does return to the gameplay style of Real Bout, and adds lots more combo possibilities, and a few new characters who are kind of fun.
So this is the gameplay video of me (re-)discovering that I like Real Bout Fatal Fury 2! This is the version in the Japanese Fatal Fury Battle Archives Volume 2 collection on PS2. I set the game to use the fully orchestrated "Arrange" sound track from the NEOGEO CD version (0:15), rather than the arcade NEOGEO MVS chip tunes. Then I played a bit with a selection of the cast:
0:47 - game intro movie
1:24 - options (I set the difficulty to 4, which in NEOGEO games like this is usually the arcade difficulty level)
1:31 - How to Play
1:50 - Player Select (character select) screen
1:53 - Terry Bogard
7:10 - Li Xiangfei
12:56 - Rick Strowd
18:20 - Franco Bash
27:09 - Bob Wilson
32:39 - Wolfgang Krauser
39:32 - Joe Higashi
46:18 - Laurence Blood
49:48 - Geese Howard
50:35 - Blue Mary
56:44 - Kim Kaphwan
1:03:36 - Duck King
Note to self: in the RB2 Options "Configuration" screen, the "Line Select" option, according to a PDF of an old Japanese arcade manual-- from http://www.gamesdatabase.org/game/arcade/real-bout-fatal-fury-2-the-newcomers -- that I translated with Google : p, is for player vs player mode, where it allows you to pick between playing on a stage with just one fighting plane, or "line," such as Xiangfei's, or on a stage with two fighting lines--where the second is used for evasion--like most of the rest of the stages.
