The Last of Us, Part I E11 - The Suburbs, Pt1 - Sewers
The Last of Us, Part I PS5
Episode 11 - The Suburbs, Pt1 - Sewers
This play through is on hard difficulty.
Gameplay is in Performance Mode captured at 1080p and 60fps
Joel and Ellie are pulled from the rapid waters by Henry, saving them from drowning. After some tension due to Joel being mad at Henry for leaving them behind when they previously parted ways, they re-group and head off together. They find the entrance to some sewers, entering in the hope it will lead them out the other side to the town beyond. They find it had been turned into a makeshift settlement founded by a man called Ish, which seemed to be a safe if less than ideal home from the Infected. Sadly this proved not to be the case, with the place becoming overrun with Infected, some who were no doubt members of Ish's group. Unintentially seperated into 2 groups at one point, Joel with Sam while Henry and Ellie runs off avoiding Clickers, out of sight. They face a tough challenge to survive.
Viewing notes:
You may spot an odd transition at the point Joel and Sam become seperated from Henry and Ellie. I took a gameplay break before facing the challenge ahead and lost a very brief bit of recording linking the scenes together. I will own up this not being the only time I tackled this very challenging section too! They seem to have made many more of the Infected be Clickers and they are much more inclined to descend upon you if you make a single mistake. Definitely harder than it used to be!

I have previously completed The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 (I never played it in its original PS3 incarnation) at least 5 times, up to Survivor difficulty. I've still yet to brave Grounded! I've chosen hard difficulty as my primary aim is to showcase the new version of the game, the level being a balance between familiarity and challenge. Also there may be gameplay changes along the way making things inherently a bit more challenging due to the unknown.
The Last of Us is my all-time favourite game, on any platform. As such buying and replaying the game in its new remade for PS5 version was a no-brainer.

The Last of Us Part I is a 2022 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. A remake of the 2013 game The Last of Us, it features revised gameplay and controls, including enhanced combat and exploration, and expanded accessibility options. The single-player story follows Joel, who is tasked with escorting the young Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States and defend against cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated strain of the Cordyceps fungus. The game also includes the expansion The Last of Us: Left Behind, a single-player campaign following Ellie and her best friend Riley. The original game's online multiplayer mode is omitted.
Development was led by game director Matthew Gallant and creative director Shaun Escayg, replacing original directors Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, respectively. The game was completely rebuilt to take advantage of the upgraded technology, requiring new animations, art direction, and character models to align with the vision of the original game's development team. The visual departments analyzed the original game, including its cutscenes and narrative beats, to identify crucial storylines and their original direction and purpose. The team expanded upon the gameplay, technology, and accessibility features of The Last of Us Part II (2020), using its game engine and building upon it with the updated technology. The game's cutscenes feature audio descriptions, for which the developers collaborated with Descriptive Video Works. The game supports 3D audio, as well as the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller.
Following several leaks, the game was officially announced in June 2022, and was released for PlayStation 5 on September 2, 2022, and at a later date for Windows. It received positive reviews, with praise for its graphical enhancements, facial animations, artificial intelligence, and its added accessibility, audio, and controller options; the response to its gameplay and level design was mixed, and several critics questioned the necessity of a remake, especially considering its price.
