The analog movement controls in The Last of Us provide a nice bit of tension (literally and figuratively), since you have to push the left stick as lightly as possible to move slowly enough that the post-human enemies won't be able to hear you. This is of course especially difficult to pull off when you're being stressed out by the contorted movements and unnatural clicking noises of one of the infected passing by just a few feet away.

On the negative side, the friendly AI is extremely annoying even though the NPCs normally can't be spotted by enemies at all (which leads to some unintentionally hilarious moments). Ellie and other friendlies have an infuriating tendency to walk in front of the playable character just at the wrong time or block the doorway he's trying to get through, resulting in a loss of precious seconds which can really screw up your timing (at least while playing on the highest difficulty and trying to remain stealthy).
