During my playthrough of the original PS3 version of The Last of Us four years ago, I was rather impatient and found the stealth and combat mechanics to be very frustrating. Going back to the game now in its remastered form after having played the later Uncharted titles - which were partially inspired by Naughty Dog's work in The Last of Us - the core gameplay loop is making a lot more sense to me. Slowly sneaking around the first few areas of the game is an appropriately tense experience (on the Grounded difficulty mode), and much more rewarding than I remember from my first playthrough.
