Renditions typically followed a religious origin whereas, in recent times, the minority of hypothesized Doomsday events have roots in science. The incomprehensible extent of the Big Rip. A plague that would make the Black Death look like a common cold in comparison. Or perhaps the end will be a slow one. A slow and silent approach from a monster that is beyond our control. They do not wish for our demise, nor do they believe it necessary for our existence to continue, they merely wish to watch.
