2The Fool's Apprentice puts you in the position of a magical Conservatory where apprentices can study within it to hone their magical skills, learn arcane knowledge, and become bonafide wizards.
As the manager of this wizard academy, you're responsible for recruiting apprentices, providing them with learning material, maintaining the Conservatory's reputation, and finally, advancing civilization through your magic research.
The problem is, you're a very hands-off type of a professor, and your apprentices are more often than not, inept. So, accidents happen. They might end up getting burned, shocked, or worse, killed, by the different magical workstations you make available for them. Thankfully, there's never any shortage of willing apprentices for you to attract and recruit. For science!
The game has a really great vibe, the lore is well thought-out, and the aesthetic is cohesive and wonderful. Oh, the soundtrack's great as well.
Unfortunately, that's where all of the positives end. The game is still just in a demo state, so any research you do accumulates... leads to nothing. No progression to see from this demo version.
Much worse is that the game isn't really clear on what the gameplay loop is supposed to be like. Your apprentices are soulless husks who independently do their research on workstations without your guidance. In fact, the way you can influence their actions within the Conservatory is minimal. That's the worst you can do in a management game!
Furthermore, the game's tutorial is lacking. It teaches you the basics and tells you how to attract students, and then that's it. It doesn't teach you how to guide your apprentices through the path of wisdom. Instead, the game forces you to be a disinterested librarian who only provides the books but never teaches.
The game has a great ambiance, which is really unfortunate. If the game remains in this state, it's hard to recommend.
