LA Noire from WISH (But actually a bit fun to play) | Police Shootout
I got this code for an old game for PC from 2022 that recently released on Xbox Series S/X and will soon be released on PlayStation 5 in March, so I'm sharing my gameplay recording and my impressions with you, guys!
Police Shootout is a police simulation game where you get to respond to police calls, go to the scene of the crime, solve these crimes, and engage in turn-based shootouts against criminals at some points.
Investigation plays similarly to detective games. You talk to potential witnesses, follow conversation branches, find clues, use these clues to make two and two together, and hopefully come to the right conclusion, solving the case. Each case you complete is evaluated based on how well you handled the case. That includes successfully negotiating with criminals instead of just outright killing them.
Police Shootout's name is misleading, though. You might come into this game thinking you're getting some Call of Duty-lite FPS, but that can't be farther from the truth. Instead, combat in Police Shootout involves a turn-based combat system where your movement and shooting consume action points that when depleted, passes the turn to the enemy, allowing them to move and shoot back at you. Shooting is a simple point-and-click affair with some timing challenge where you have to stop a moving pointer right in the middle of a bar to shoot accurately.
The game also screams asset flip with generic models, assets, and what I suspect is AI voice acting.
While the quality and polish are down in the gutter, I still had fun playing Police Shootout. I was fairly involved with the cases, and the tactical aspect of the turn-based shooting was engaging enough for me to tolerate it. However, these mechanics quickly lose their novelty, and then your enjoyment of the game will solely be based on just how much you enjoy its stories, which involves the protagonist looking for clues for his missing brother.
Police Shootout is a strange game. Perhaps it's my low expectations for it that led me to this, but I did have a bit of fun while playing this game, and I might even go for some more later on.
