8,548In this episode of A Wild Glitch Appears, I showcase a little bit of The Trash Can Bug in Final Fantasy Legend II aka SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu.
In Final Fantasy Legend II for the Nintendo Game Boy, there's a glitch called The Trash Can Bug. The trash can icon at the bottom of your item inventory is typically used to discard unwanted items, but under certain conditions, you can actually use the trash can as an item and it will produce various beneficial effects.
These effects depend on your current MAGI count. For example, if you have 67 MAGI, using the trash can will yield the same effect as using a Power Potion (which grants plus 3 strength permanently). If you have 68 MAGI, using the trash can as an item will yield the same effect as using a Speed Potion (plus 3 agility permanently).
One peculiar aspect of this glitch is that, depending on how many times you abuse this Trash Can Bug, you total MAGI count can be affected. Sometimes when this happens, you will no longer be able to finish the game, since certain areas are only accessible with enough MAGI. The Trash Can Bug can max out your MAGI count, and then when you collect your next MAGI (which often cannot be avoided) the MAGI counter will reset to zero, meaning you cannot advance to certain areas of the game.
To maximize the number of uses you can get out of The Trash Can Bug, I've read that you will want to equip your characters with the Prism, Speed, Aegis, and Power MAGI in that order. In which case, you will be able to use The Trash Can Bug 72 times in total (or 71 without messing up your MAGI counter, I think).
