In this episode of A Wild Glitch Appears, we're going to grab the Magnet Beam item in Mega Man without using any abilities from bosses. This is usually called the Magnet Beam Glitch, or Early Magnet Beam.

In Mega Man for the NES, there's a necessary item called the Magnet Beam that allows Mega Man to create platforms in mid-air. It can be found in Elec Man's level and it normally requires the use of the Super Arm (G) or Thunder Beam (E) ability, which can be acquired from Guts Man and Elec Man respectively.

However, there's a fairly reliable glitch that you can use to obtain the Magnet Beam without having to use any weapons or powers.

First, head to the screen in the Elec Man stage that houses the Magnet Beam item and stand above the bottom right ladder. Then, hit down and B on the same frame, and if you did it right, Mega Man will look like he's climbing an invisible ladder (that is, his character sprite will be protruding far above the top of the ladder. Much farther than normal, anyway).

Next, hit up and left at the same time, and Mega Man will zip to the left side of the screen. He will appear as if he is standing on air.

Now, do a full jump straight up and tap right on the D-Pad at the very height of your jump. If you've done it correctly, Mega Man will be standing in the wall just to the right of the Magnet Beam item (and his feet will be level with it).

This is the part where you have to be careful. You can retry all of the other steps in this process if you fail, but here, if you get stuck in the little area that houses the Magnet Beam, you will be softlocked, and you'll have to reset (unless you have the Super Arm or Thunder Beam).

Next, you want to run to the right for approximately ten frames, then tap left. Do not go too far to the left. If you did it right, Mega Man will now be standing in the wall, but facing left. Often, Mega Man will be zipped back to the lower left side of the screen. If this is the case, simple retry the last two steps.

But when Mega Man is standing in the wall and facing left, simply inch to the left by tapping left on the D-Pad until you grab with Magnet Beam. Again, making a mistake here might get you trapped with no way out. Fortunately, this part is pretty easy.

After collecting the Magnet Beam, jump straight up, and Mega Man should zip back to the lower left portion of the screen. Now, alternate between right and left until Mega Man walks out from the right wall.

If you did it all correctly, you should now possess the Magnet Beam, and you obtained it without using the otherwise necessary powers! This is probably one of the easiest and most useful Mega Man glitches. I say it's easy because for the most part if you mess up, you can just try again. Ain't no time limit on these games.
