The Ultimate Beginner Guide for Destiny 2 talks about Quick tips that I have gathered while playing extensively. I have 3 characters 305 and have done every piece of content in the game. These are just a few of the tips that I gathered over that time. I hope they help you start of strong.
Tips
-Choose Character Based on Preference (mobility, resilience, and recovery)
-Join a clan for the extra rewards, and don't be afraid to change it up if the clan does not fit your needs, active players in modes you want to do and personalities.
-You can use r/fireteams, the100, or LFG.net to find a group for farming, raids, and nightfalls
-Save your glimmer for infusions and adding mods until you are near or at the max 305 Power Level
-Infusions are for same type loot, auto rifle with auto rifle, and hunter cloak with hunter cloak
-Additional characters should be different classes since the powerful engrams are matched to the lowest power level of each class. So having 2 or 3 hunters won't really be an advantage in power leveling.
-The game takes into account the gear in your personal inventory for calculating power level, so you don't need to have the highest power level weapons/gear equipped at all times.
-Save tokens hitting level 20 then, then save from power level 265 until you reach max (unless you want a specific piece of gear).
-Save powerful engrams until about power level 265 unless the weekly reset is about to happen.
-Enemies scale to your power level so Power level is only important when you are under leveled for an activity
-Once you have completed the main story and hit level 20 you can get extra reputation tokens by completing daily challenges
-Save 5 Scout Rifles (Rare or Legendary) because they will be needed for a quest later
-Use elemental weapons for shields to do more damage, and if the burn matches it will cause extra explosion damage
-Make sure you put a spare sparrow in the vault for alternate characters
-There are 8 different public events that can be turned heroic for extra loot, glimmer and xp, so it is good to get an idea how to trigger each event.
