296Sometimes you only have to play a few minutes of a game to realise it's onto something BIG, Ultimechs is one of those games, the developers at Resolution waste no time with their new VR game which blends Rocket League with giant mech combat to create a chaotic, addictive and incredibly fun VR experience that will have you hooked from the second you load it up. Not only is this the best VR competitive sport experience I've played so far, it's also a massive contender for one of the best FREE VR games ever... yes that's right, when Ultimechs launches (on Steam, Quest 2 and Pico) on the 15th of September 2022 the game will be free to play and support full cross play, meaning there won't be a shortage of opponents to test your skills against. All players will have access to a free battle pass filled with cosmetic items, colour sets, banner themes and more which they can start working towards with each and every game, however Ultimechs also offers a premium battle pass that contains some even cooler cosmetic items and unlockable treats. I have a feeling this one could be huge.
I'm often quite pessimistic when it comes to multiplayer only VR titles / online competitive VR titles with no "single player" aspect, often the player base dwindles quickly and leaves the game dead in a short time but something feels different with Ultimechs. Resolution have clearly done their market research and have drawn inspiration from popular free to play games like Fortnite and Fall Guys to offer an incentive to continue engaging with the highly addictive gameplay loop long after launch. Unlocking items to show off your skills has always been a driving force for retaining players and UItimechs looks set to nail this from the word go!
