Tom & Jerry (Game Boy) Playthrough
Playthrough of Hi Tech Expressions' 1992 side-scrolling platformer for the Game Boy, Tom & Jerry.
Tom & Jerry for the Game Boy is a side-scrolling platformer that brings the classic cartoon rivalry to the small screen. Players take control of Jerry, the mischievous mouse, as he tries to outmaneuver Tom while navigating through a series of levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and environmental hazards. The game captures the spirit of the animated series by emphasizing speed, agility, and clever escapes, making each level a race against time and danger.
Jerry’s journey takes him through various household environments, such as kitchens, attics, and basements, each designed to reflect the oversized world from a mouse’s perspective. Along the way, he must avoid traps, dodge falling objects, and defeat small enemies like insects and toy soldiers. His primary weapon is a limited supply of marbles, which can be thrown at enemies to clear a path forward. In some sections, Jerry can jump onto bouncing objects or use moving platforms to reach higher areas, adding variety to the gameplay.
Tom himself frequently appears, either as a direct obstacle or lurking in the background, waiting for the chance to strike. Some levels feature chase sequences where Jerry must outrun Tom while navigating tight corridors and tricky jumps. The game’s difficulty gradually increases, requiring precise timing and quick reflexes to avoid getting caught. While the gameplay is simple, the charming animations and classic cat-and-mouse antics make it a fun experience for fans of the cartoon.
