Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Open Beta (2017) (PC) (Ubisoft Paris)
Hugh Dancy's Coke Region Badlands (or whatever this game is actually called) is the latest semi-realistic Ubisoft third-person shooter, which brings jingoism to the jungle in the form of a visually impressive but also rather unflattering portrayal representation of Bolivia (as in the actual South American nation). For the purposes of the game, Ubisoft has conveniently replaced the left-wing government of Evo Morales (Bolivia's first indigenous president) with a spineless drug-infused administration which lets corruption and violence get out of hand, and thus it's up to the player to open world co-op the shit out of every evil narcoterrorist in sight.
Gameplay-wise there actually appears to be a fair amount of Tom Clancy DNA at work here, at least in so far as the gunplay can get rather brutal in ways that favor stealth approaches and proper teamwork. Even the beta environment is fairly huge and the game certainly doesn't appear to be lacking in content. Whether or not Wildlands has anything meaningful to offer in a jam-packed quarter filled with other open world titles like Horizon: Zero Dawn or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (heck, even Nier: Automata is open world!) remains to be seen, however...
