Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (2002) - 09 - Chinese Embassy [2/2] [September 13th, 2002 Xbox Prototype]
General Feirong is fleeing the Chinese Embassy with a near-complete nuclear device. Sam must prevent the warhead from leaving and find evidence that the general is working alone.
From this video, you can see some differences from the final:
- There is no guard patrolling the building near the Chinese Embassy.
- There are two turrets guarding the embassy's main entrance. Apparently the turrets friendly fire were hacked, causing one guard fallen to his death.
- There is no ventilation grill leading into the embassy.
- The door near the janitor's room is keypad locked.
- The guards who are destroying the data inside the computer room will be interrupted easily when spotted one of the guards being taken out.
- Despite no data, Sam can try to access the PCs. But not in this prototype.
- The main computer room is lit blue instead of red.
- The keypad lock to the lobby was placed on the left side of the door.
- Climbing up the pipe to the room with the retinal scanner is slightly problematic.
- The colonel and the guard, who was destined to the retinal scanner was seen blocked behind the door near the turret after entering the keypad code. This causes Sam to get stuck in this level.
- The dog at the courtyard doesn't respond to Sam's nearby presence.
- In the warehouse, there is a window overlooking the keypad locked room. Although this was not brought into the final, it was instead appeared on the loading screen.
- Only the FN7 ammo is seen on the table near the second warehouse.
- The cutscene where both trucks are about to leave is similar to the PS2/GC version. Additionally, both trucks leave early before Sam can prevent them easily. Plus, we don't get to see the Chinese soldier toss off the fuel nozzle up close in this version, which even goes on every platform but the final Xbox version.
- Sam is required to shoot the truck's tanker in order to complete the objective. However, the level is broken at this point as there is no indication that the objective is completed.
- No cutscene was shown after destroying the trucks. Plus,
- Goa was reported that the general is attempting to commit suicide. However, he does not respond on the radio. Thus, making the path leading to the general difficult as the level is broken at this point.
- Additionally, Goa is not wearing a beret.
- The keypad leading to the elevator cannot be accessed even with the correct code.
- The general's room appears to have no cutscene nor interrogation option at all. It is likely that the level is broken here. It is not impossible to leave the embassy however.
- General Kong Feirong's hat is missing.
- Sam is required to open the doors into the burning area as the fires did not blast them in this version. This was brought into the PS2/GC version.
This mission requires Ghost and Walk mode to get by locked areas, which is the main reason why some features from this prototype were removed for the final version.
This prototype was played through Xemu, so visual and performance issues do occur here. Played for documentation even though trying to be stealthy.
