Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Walkthrough Part 9: Bathhouse
1After the analysis of the data secured by Sam during an infiltration into war-torn Seoul, Third Echelon discovers that the real origin point of the hack that led to sinking of USS Clarence E. Walsh and kicked off an war in Korea actually originated in Japan, definitely connecting it to Displace International and their local contacts, who are yet to be identified. Due to that, and since Douglas Shetland will meet them in an bathhouse in Tokyo to sell off the remaining developed Masse Kernels, Sam is deployed to Japan once more, this time with the mission of infiltrating the bathhouse and finding out who Shetland's Japanese contacts are before killing Shetland himself. As he infiltrates the building, Sam discovers that it is full of Displace mercenaries securing the building ahead of the meeting and, weirdly enough, runs into two members of JSDF's I-SDF branch who claim to be observing the meeting as well, despite such actions not having been annouced to NSA. As he proceeds deeper into the building, Sam observes the meeting as it begins and to his horror, realizes that I-SDF are Shetland's Japanese contacts and buyers, although Shetland double-crosses and kills them before proceeding to leave as the bathhouse descends into an violent shootout between Displace mercenaries and I-SDF's troops, forcing Sam to navigate through two factions as he pursues Shetland and faces off against his personal bodyguards. While Shetland sets up explosives in the bathhouse's furnace room in an attempt to delay him, Sam is able to swiftly disable them and pursue Shetland to the bathhouse's rooftop. In the ensuing confrontation, two former friends end up in an armed standoff, aiming handguns at each other, with Shetland finally revealing that his reason for trying to force the world into an new global conflict using Masse Kernels was disillusionment with United States, as despite Displace International directly benefitting from its affiliation with the American government, Shetland started to personally percieve it as too rotten and corrupt to keep existing in the current global order and thus, saw the World War that would likely errupt from his machinations as an massive but necessary purge that would "rebuild" the world into more just and better place. Regardless, Sam disagrees and ultimately guns cornered Shetland down, causing his corpse to crash through the rooftop skylight back into the bathhouse...
