Tom Clancy's The Division (2016) (PC) (Ubisoft Massive)
0Tom Clancy's The Division is an ambitious but dangerously bland third-person cover-based shooter with Destiny-style ARPG hooks anchored within an MMO-like framework. As a shooter it's merely serviceable and Bungie's similar game certainly has a much stronger mechanical foundation by comparison. There are some basic tactics involved which make the various skills and buffs reasonably satisfying to work with, but one can't help but compare The Division unfavorably to more focused (singleplayer) offerings like Gears of War or even Binary Domain. And although the game's visuals can be impressive at times, they are held back significantly by the often mundane real world settings. Initial sales nonwithstanding, it's going to be interesting to see whether this (Ubisoft) Massive release can sustain a large enough audience over the long haul.
