Following the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios has been pushing a for your consideration campaign, for No Way Home to be in the running for this year’s Oscars.
They are competing in every category, including Best Picture, which Black Panther was also previously nominated for.
When asked for his thoughts on the push, Holland said: “We’re all incredibly proud of the film, it would obviously be a huge honour if it was nominated for an Oscar, but that’s not how we like to validate ourselves.”
It seems unlikely that No Way Home will be nominated for Best Picture, as Black Panther was nominated for cultural relevance rather than filmmaking quality.
However, it may stand a chance at some other wins, including best VFX, best costume design, or even best adapted screenplay, as these categories have often seen superhero blockbusters nominated.
Black Panther was nominated for & won best Costume Design, and Logan was nominated for best adapted screenplay.
Other Marvel films like Infinity War & Doctor Strange were also nominated for best visual effects, though they are always up against stiff competition, so it’s up in the air if No Way Home will win.
