856At this point in the series Neversoft were on a yearly cycle, and so the Tony Hawk games would start adding mechanics on a yearly basis. THPS4 added Spine Transfers, so that you can jump up and over a ramp, which would give you a lot more mobility in combos. They also moved away from two minute runs and into open world territory, which makes some of the objectives a little less skateboarding focused, but also gives you a lot more variety, which helps to flesh the game out. As you can see, THPS4 is also where the combos get a lot bigger thanks to the ability to change trick via manual or grind, so you can really ramp up the multiplier.
