1001 Spikes [PC, 2014]
0There has been a glut of difficult but rewarding 2D platformers over the past few years (and having played a good chunk of Super Meat Boy, I feel like I'm pretty decent at playing them). That said, 1001 Spikes can be a vicious beast! The concept of having two different jump buttons (on an Xbox controller A for a shallow jump and Y for a tall jump) actually adds a surprising amount, as you need to account for whether a tall jump will put you into spikes etc. The music is incredible, and the controls feel tight and responsive, so 1001 Spikes only becomes frustrating through your own mistakes, and I feel like that's an important part of what makes this game so lovable.
