"Top Gear Overdrive" for the Nintendo 64, developed by Snowblind Studios and published by Kemco in 1998, serves as the sequel to "Top Gear Rally". Unlike its rally-focused predecessor, the game features multiplayer races against the computer, nitro boosts, and the ability to upgrade your vehicle using earned money.

In the primary game mode, Championship Mode, players navigate through six seasons, each progressively offering more races across diverse tracks, featuring faster cars. Each race kicks off with the player positioned at the back of the starting grid while computer-controlled opponents often start a portion of the way into the first lap. Players begin with three nitrous oxide charges, providing temporary speed boosts. There are six tracks and 14 cars in total.

During races, players can collect two types of power-ups: nitrous oxide for immediate use and cash, which contributes to winnings and can be used to upgrade the player's car. Tracks often feature shortcuts that can significantly impact race outcomes, especially in later seasons. Post-race, players have the opportunity to upgrade various aspects of their car, such as acceleration and handling, and even swap their car for a better (or worse) one. Additional nitrous oxide can also be purchased for use in subsequent races. To progress to the next season, players must finish fourth or better in all races of the current season.

Overall, "Top Gear Overdrive" for the Nintendo 64 delivers an enjoyable arcade racing experience. The tracks are well-designed, featuring numerous shortcuts and dynamic weather conditions, and each track offers unique scenery. It has impressive graphics, with detailed vehicle models and beautifully crafted tracks. The controls can feel somewhat loose though, especially at high speeds.
