"Space Megaforce" for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), also known as Super Aleste in Japan and Europe, is a vertically scrolling shooter developed by Compile and published by Taito in 1992. The game is part of the Aleste series. Players assume control of a spacecraft navigating diverse environments while engaging enemy ships. There are twelve stages, eight weapons, and five difficulty modes in the game.

In 2048, a colossal mechanical sphere descends from space, launching devastating assaults on major cities worldwide. Despite numerous attempts to thwart it, the sphere remains impervious to Earth's military attacks, ultimately settling over the South American jungles. As conventional efforts fail, the construction of an advanced space fighter, the Super Aleste, becomes necessery. This fighter is tasked with penetrating the sphere's defenses and neutralizing its threat.

There are eight distinct weapon types available, each upgradable by collecting chips—small egg-shaped items scattered throughout the game. Accumulating chips boosts the current weapon's level, maxing out at six. Two chip variants exist: Orange chips facilitate level-ups, but higher levels demand more chips, while Green chips instantly elevate the weapon's level. The ship's health corresponds to its weapon level. Upon sustaining damage, the weapon diminishes by four levels. If the weapon is already at level zero when hit, the player loses a life.

Overall, "Space Megaforce" for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) is a long and pretty slow scrolling shooter, with the screen often filled with enemies and details. With twelve stages, eight weapons, and five difficulty modes, it's got planty of options and content. Visually, it looks great too. The game includes a "Short Game" mode, comprising segments from regular levels, where the primary objective is to achieve the highest possible score. It's a great shooter, but a shorter and faster game would work better.
