It's Touhou, of course. A strangely stress-reliefing one.
The main factor is how much fire power the game gives. It's pretty high compared to the other ones in the series and even more rarely, rewarding quick kills...? That's pretty odd! This game feels more like a CAVE game than a Touhou game, and that is welcome in my book.
You know the deal: Shoot, focus shot, bombs. This game's gimmick is the beast items. Collect 5 of any kind and you'll go into this game's hyper mode. 4 hyper mode variants: Default, which gives general upgrade, Wolf (red), upgrades and only lets you use the focus shot, Otter (green), gives you an Aleste-style ring shield, and Eagle (purple), upgrades and only lets you use spread shot. Obviously, Marisa Wolf is the chosen one just for the sheer fire power. The chosen support beast will prolong the chosen hyper mode. Sounds pretty much like DDP DOJ, don't you think?
The patterns in general are more lenient, but it's pretty stingy with lives, but in hyper mode when you get hit you only lose the hyper mode and you keep your lives. So the main challenge is when to activate and delay the hyper mode.
Of course Touhou 17 is recommended. But why exactly? Mainly for stress relief, especially the Normal mode. You'll finish off bosses quickly when in hyper mode and that is very satisfying. Hard and Lunatic? What do you expect? Obviiously those modes will punish you.
