[Blue Revolver] Mae Hyper Follow Laser No Continue CLEAR [CC Commentary]
While I do like the game, I don't love it. This game is not great.
In Blue Revolver you can shoot, you have a special weapon that is pretty powerful but won't clear any bullets, and you can bomb. There are two special things to note about this game: Rank system and its Flourish scoring system.
Rank system means the better you play (don't get hit, survive, scoring, etc) the game will get progressively harder. Faster bullets, denser bullet patterns, and so on. The subtle gauge above the screen is the rank meter. The redder it is, the higher your rank. I don't know how it exactly works, but personally? Overall the rank system is pretty ignorable. Just go gungho. It's nice to have the game go lenient on you when you've just took a hit, though.
Then the scoring system. You can build up to 8 hits as you destroy enemies in succession. This number doesn't really matter until you use your special weapon to cash the multiplier in up to 64x. The best strategy is to keep the special weapon ammo until you find a big enemy. They will give lots of scoring points. And this is the game's strong part. When you should score? When you should hold back your ammo? It's not too punishing with mistakes and improvement is exciting. Scoring is also important because each time you reach enough score you'll get extends up to 4 times.
For survival though, I personally find this game is pretty shaky.
1 time it's easy, then next one gets surprisingly difficult, then the next pattern, even with the same rank level, is mind bogglingly easy. Perhaps it depends on one's experience, but it makes each segment of the game not equally memorable enough. One is more memorable to just skip, others would be forgotten due to how easy it is to no bomb. Also what's with the inconsistent rule of some body parts are invincible?
Then there is this weird DPS the Follow shot has. It might be just me, but the DPS is significantly better than Narrow and Wide, making the difficulty go way down. Weird. It makes fights estimatedly twice faster due to the flexibility of the shot coverage. When the game is not a weapon switcher I'm not a fan of this high disparity of DPS.
Overall this game is pretty good and I recommend people to try it out especially for scoring. Aside of its pretty accessible scoring system I don't think the game stands out too much at least in Hyper difficulty.
