Townscaper is a minimalistic city builder that occupies the "peaceful" corner of the genre. The implementation is fascinating and brilliant, rewarding focused creativity and play almost in equal measure, though with all of that said, one could perhaps make the case that it can't squarely be called a "game", because there really isn't any objective except for creation.

These are my general thoughts, meant to be part of a two-part series, in which I also intend to look at Dorfromantik, which is a strategy title that I think scratches a similar gaming itch.
