Trails from Zero (PC) 4K First 2 hours
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero (PC version by NISA & PH3)
Finally, the first half of the Crossbell arc has come westward. Trails from Zero, or Zero no Kiseki, debuted in 2010 on the PSP. The PS Vita received an Evolution edition. Falcom eventually had a Kai edition released for the PS4 in Japan. Trails from Zero has a similar perspective to Trails in the Sky and uses a similar mix of sprite characters in a 3D world.
The Crossbell arc takes place 3 months after the end of the Liberl (Sky) arc, while some of its timeline overlaps with the first Trails of Cold Steel. You will see some features that were carried over to ToCS, like the EXP bonus multiplier after a battle.
Thanks to Geofront it has been localised for NISA's release. Durante and the PH3 Games studio have ported it to PC. You most likely know that Durante is not content to stop at a straight port. There will be a good dose of TLC put into it. Graphics have been updated further over the PS4 version. HQ textures, high framerate support up to 144, and dynamic shadows are just a couple of the improvements. Draw distance limits have been removed to quash any pop-in. Mouse support? Sure. Durante said that you could play TFZ using just the mouse, if you like. Yes, even the mini-games.
You would not think that a Nintendo Switch port would beat the PS4 version, but this is a rare exception. How did that happen? Switch's version is based on Durante & Co.'s PC one, and shares some of its improvements. PS4's release is simply localised from Falcom's Japanese one, with nothing else added. For all three versions only the Japanese voices are in, with no English dub, as it is with Tokyo Xanadu eX+.
Next year, there will be Trails to Azure (Zero's sequel), Nayuta: Boundless Trails (something like Zwei and Ys: The Oath in Felghana rolled into one), and Trails Into Reverie (Hajimari no Kiseki).
