Train Simulator 2019: The Marlow Donkey
Today we drive another GWR tank engine. This time we take a 14xx class 0-4-2T from Marlow to Bourne End and return, on a Steam Workshop route called 'Wycombe Branch'.
The line from Maidenhead to Bourne End used to carry on to High Wycombe (on today's Chiltern Mainline), with the line to Marlow being a branch of that route. Nowadays the line has been rationalised to the point where all that's left is the Maidenhead to Bourne End and Marlow section.
Back in the steam era, the Marlow to Bourne End shuttle was typically worked by a 14xx class and Autocoach combination - known as the auto-train. For some reason this service was nicknamed 'The Marlow Donkey', hence the title of this video.
This was also the first time I tried driving the 14xx class in advanced mode. In fact, I had no choice but to drive the engine in advanced. This is because the Steam Sounds Supreme sound pack has caused the regulator to not work in simple mode. Surprisingly, I pulled it off, even though I have no idea how to drive a 14xx in advanced mode.
We are in the engine from Marlow to Bourne End. For the return trip, we switch to the autocoach.
