Trying Data East Arcade 2 (Part 3) [Evercade #258]

The final part of this cart, and I think the one with the best batch of games, too!
Edward Randy is an odd one to put into words. Because graphically, it's impressive. But the gameplay doesn't give the best experience, mostly due to the lack of audio/visual feedback for a lot of actions. The score/power decreases/increases when the action is done, so you don't always see the most accurate information for your life. There's no indication other than the meter if you're giving/receiving damage. Maybe I just need to spend some more time with this one, but it kinda rubs me the wrong way.
Super BurgerTime definitely feels like a natural evolution to BurgerTime. Everything is better - from controls to visuals to music! I spent a lot of time during the video talking about something irrelevant, because despite the upgrades, it's still not the most interesting thing out there. It's definitely good, and I can see myself going back to this occasionally. :)
Trio The Punch definitely lives up to the description, that's for sure. It is very weird and unpredictable; and that is cool! But the game itself isn't very interesting to play? The novelty and enjoyment definitely lies in the visuals and shock, rather than actual gameplay.
Joe & Mac Returns is probably the best game on the cart. It's weird, considering I had no expectations at all. But it is basically TumblePop (and thank you Shaun for reminding me of the name during the recording, :P ), and TumblePop is great! This is a fun and refined game! :D
Doing this cart by release I think worked well in the end, because we got to see how the games evolved over time. And seeing the quality of the games in this part, the last ones, was worth the roughness of the games in Part 1, xD
I hope that we can get a Data East Arcade 3 at some point. Maybe if SNK licenses the NEOGEO BIOS we can get one, I hope?
Either way, this was a good cart and I'm glad I got to experience a lot of these games! :D
