The Tungsten Peak Mine was the site of a fatal accident in November 2009. A 30-year old woman named Linda Rose had taken her young nephew to the site. She apparently got too close to a shaft and ended up falling in when the ground gave way beneath her. She fell approximately 100 feet and died. Her body was removed several hours later. Topographic maps only indicated one shaft on the site, so I hiked in to check it out. The shaft is still open, and I'm pretty certain this was where Rose fell to her death. I noticed that the floor immediately inside the inclined shaft seemed to be a false floor. I believe that Rose entered this shaft not realizing how unstable the floor was. In the video, you will see the probable hole that she slipped through and plunged 100 feet to her death.
