This was our third exploration of the Bobtail Mines in which we explored four more tunnels at the site. We entered the mines around midnight and came out five hours later at 5:00 AM. Each subsequent tunnel led to a larger and more massive, multi-level part of the Bobtail Mines. We were quite surprised at how extensive and far-reaching these particular mines were. We descended 150 feet down one inclined shaft in the fourth tunnel, but we stopped when the shaft suddenly turned vertical and continued for several hundred more feet. We found a small ore skip cart laying on its side in the inclined shaft! In all the tunnels, we found ourselves in multi-level stopes that reached upward and downward for hundreds of feet. Besides the ore skip cart just mentioned, we found other interesting artifacts here and there in the tunnels we explored.
