Twin Peaks, Washington. Population, 51,201.

On the surface, it’s a charming logging town, with decent, hardworking people, but beneath that fine exterior brews a darkness as black as midnight on a moonless night.

Documentation of the town's mysteries began with the Lewis and Clark expedition. In addition to their efforts to find a northwest passage and map the newly acquired western territories, Lewis was also tasked in secret by Thomas Jefferson to investigate "the spiritual and shamanistic" traditions of the tribes in the northwest. Meriwether Lewis met Twisted Hair Chief of the Nez Perce and was given a mysterious ring with instructions that it should never be left alone nor worn. The ring would eventually find its way to Laura Palmer shortly before her death.

Since its founding, Twin Peaks has found itself closely tied to the paranormal with documented sightings of giants, "Strange walking owls", and UFOs. Government agencies, the boy scouts, and The Bookhouse Boys -- a local secret society sworn to defend the town from the supernatural evil -- are all eager to understand the darkness that inhabits the surrounding woods and seems to emanate from the black lodge.

The owls may indeed not be what they seem, and there may be fish in the percolator, and the prom queen may be wrapped in plastic, but if it’s too worrisome, you can always visit the Double R for a cup of coffee and a slice of cherry pie that'll kill you!
