Dear international friends, lacking an Italian background it will probably be impossible to understand this video, but let us try to give you some context.For 2022 "Pezza di Wafdini" we decided to celebrate/mock game director Hideo Kojima and his most famous saga: Metal Gear Solid. We matched each chapter of the series to a song and we wrote some lyrics somehow describing or making fun of the games.

Metal Gear Solid 1: We assigned Take me Home Country Roads to the first chapter and the lyrics just to make fun of some iconic moments and traits of the game. The only reason we chose TmHCR is because the song starts with "Almost Heaven", which could be easily changed to "Outer Heaven", the fictional setting of the very first Metal Gear for MSX. To be honest, this transition from Almost to Outer Heaven is the sole reason why the whole video is about Metal Gear Solid. It was all born from this.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Through the song "I Nani" we wanted to pay tribute (and respects) to the legendary Roman-British musician Richard Benson, unanimously recognized as the fastest guitarist in the world, passed away earlier this year. Concerning the lyrics, Metal Gear Solid 2 is about memes, so we just took Benson's song and we switched from "I Nani" (the dwarves) to "I meme".

Metal Gear Solid 3: "Snake Eater" is the third chapter's main theme and it's so beautiful and iconic that we decided to keep it and we just changed the lyrics. MGS3 is about cold war, capitalism vs communism, there is this "romantic fascination" for the East, and a common theme (and meme) of the game is the idea of defecting to Soviet Union. So we thought: "What if we take these feelings (somewhat noble) and we transpose them in today's world, giving voice to a middle-aged right-wing Roman bus driver? He looks at Putin and what he sees is no minorities, no immigrants, no LGBTQ+ community, strong cult of personality (not far from THE DVX Mussolini)... Russia must look like paradise to him! The lack of pizza and babà is surely a problem, but he is willing to accept it if it means avoiding minorities.

Metal Gear Solid 4: The song "Il Lupo di Gubbio" was chosen to draw a parallelism between the character of Johnny and something that happened in the Italian city of Gubbio. The lyrics we wrote refer to a tragic event happened in October in this beautiful city. A group of fishermen fished a huge tuna in the Adriatic sea. They decided to eat it all together in a restaurant in Gubbio, but apparently the tuna was not kept in the freezer for enough time at the right temperature... Eating that fish caused devastating attacks of diarrhea and dysentery in all the participants. Toilets were full, white pants became brown, car crushes happened because of the urge to go to the bathroom... it was a disaster. No one better than Johnny from MGS4 to express this feeling of really needing a toilet to expel brown demons from your body.

Metal Gear Solid 5: We chose Africa simply because the game is partially set in Africa. The fifth chapter is a living meme, so it was easy to write the lyrics almost only out of "funny" quotes from the game.

Death Stranding: We decided to end the video with the newest Kojima's game and its most famous song: I'll Keep Coming. The short lyrics are mostly a reference to a previous video, Death Stranding Truè (which was born from the hype generated by the second trailer of the game in 2019), where NanoWar of Steel's song "Gioca Truè" (which is already a parody of the Italian party song "Gioca Jouer") was applied to Death Stranding (there are references to things like going on a motorbike without a helmet, volcanoes exploding, pizza deliveries...).There is also mention of Antonio, our dearest friend drowned in the abyss of Palinuro. There is not a single day without us missing him deeply (unlike his mother).

We hope this can help you to better understand the video.Don't take it seriously (just like the other Christmas videos) and remember that it's done literally for just 5 friends. Hope you enjoy!

In case there's any Pezza connoisseur (WHY?!) among the readers, you might notice the instrumental background isn't nearly are refined as it was for Act I and II. I could pretend this was a very elaborate meta-take on Kojima's latest works being unpolished due to various reasons... but the truth is I just couldn't be bothered to put more effort into music (as you might have noticed by this year's record-breaking low output of the channel). Hopefully 2023 should have some neat stuff coming out though :)
