Unreal's legacy lies with multiplayer and I can see that because, as stated earlier, that was what got it all the attention to the point where the multiplayer spin-offs got more games than the main series. I'm not going to say the single-player is bad, because it isn't - it's actually pretty decent - but it does seem like it was a "me too" directed towards Quake and Quake II. The level design and detail is a step down from Quake II, use of browns aside, and the weapons are unique, but not the kinds of things I'd want to see ported into another game thanks to their role-based design. I'm sure it amazed people when it first came out, but I don't know if it holds up as well as other games from the era. It didn't age poorly, but it didn't age perfectly either.
