Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car - Arcade - Attract and 3, 4, 5 Star Ranked playthroughs [UHD 4K60]
Full gameplay longplay, playthrough, walkthrough of the 1991 SEGA coin operated ride Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car, showing three endings and gameplay. You often seen coin operated rides in malls, supermarkets and arcades designed for young children to sit on for a few minutes. Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car was one such ride that largely only released in Japan,a few were exported to the west with English labels, but the game remained in Japanese. A western release was planned and cancelled it appears, which was a huge mistake by SEGA as they could have used rides like this to dominate supermarket space and help drive consumer towards SEGA games and products.
First off you'll noticed that this video only has three playthroughs or longplays in it. Yet the game supposedly awards you one out of five stars. Well that's because it doesn't, you can't obtain a rank lower than three stars, well this is a kids ride after all. It doesn't matter what you do, turbo in the slow lane, crash into cars on the wrong side of the road, let Dr Eggman escape, signal the wrong way or activate your sirens when you feel like it. You can't get a rank of two or one star, clearly SEGA didn't want kids to be left in tears with the game saying they were rubbish with a one star rank. Largely the ranking system is based on how many times you hit Robotnik at the end and not crashing into other cars. [Edit: 1 & 2 star are possible we learned, if you hit the wall and spin the car almost endlessly, from start to finish.] An updated version of this video that shows all five runs can be watched here: https://youtu.be/-ZVQ6fT50U4
It's a short fun little driving ride that lasts about two minutes, with Sonic patrolling the motorway looking for Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. Sonic drives for a bit has to stop at traffic lights (No, you can't run over the flickies who cross the road) drive for a bit more, before you have a short battle with Robotnik. You only need to hit him once for his car to blow up when his section finishes. He will get away if you fail to hit him, however none of this changes Sonic's dialogue at the end, only the rank screen. It's a nice little game perfect for young family members and sitting in a small moving car with lights must have been rather fun. It's an obscure piece of Sonic history worth a look. Not least because it pre-dates Mario Kart with a mascot character like Sonic the Hedgehog driving a car and is the first game Sonic is voiced over in. A follow up ride released in the line was known as SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter. The video shows two different attract runs as if you change the dipswitches for the coins it changes what the sign during the attract said.
