In this video review, I use Wanna Kicks iOS app by Wannaby, a Sneakers shoes try-on camera app for iPhone and iPad (iOS). You can download the app for free from the App Store.

This app uses advanced 3D geometry algorithms alongside neural networks in order to detect the feet of people and position virtual shoes on them in a way that it looks natural and believable. Furthermore, it can also track the foot and adjust the location and orientation of the 3D model to match one of the legs. If you walk, the shoes will move with it, if you raise your foot, the shoes will stay attached to the foot as well, like it naturally is with a real shoe.

I believe that the core idea is using a neural network system that is trained with a large number of images of feet and it can learn from those training images and then it constructs infer rules for recognizing people's feet. This way, the app is able to detect and track people's feet automatically without any intervention. The neural network allows the app to determine what is a human foot and what is not, geometric algorithms can provide the app with the position, size, and orientation of it so it can then match the virtual shoe to it.

There is a lot to learn about this topic, and I just getting started. In the upcoming weeks and months, I am going to read more about this topic so I can provide you with more accurate information on how those things are being done.

As you can see in the video, the tracking is far from being perfect and it loses tracking from time to time, it is also quite jittery,

The goal here is to have an app that can become more accurate over time using Deep Learning, so this process of adapting to the people who use this app can be seamless and the learning process can be automated rather than needing to manually add that images for the algorithm to later process it.

I really love this app and I keep it installed because I want to see if future updates are further use of the app will improve the detection and what other features we are going to have.

Make sure that your device is supported by the app. I'm sure that the AR and AI community will enjoy using this app, alongside casual users that discover the possibilities of these technologies for the very first time and those who are already familiar with it and see where we can take these technologies to create useful and compelling AR experiences.
