War Thunder: Beaufighter Mk. VIc - Necessity Aplenty
Born out of the RAF's Heavy Fighter deficit in 1938 by comparison with the German Luftwaffe's BF 110, the Beaufighter was an aircraft that arose out of Necessity: The Mother of all Invention, within the space of a year and a half. Historically performing well as both a Night Fighter and an Anti-Shipping Attacker, the Beaufighter was a landmark in British engineering that is often under-valued in modern historical articles.
The Mk. VIc was the second mainstream Beaufighter variant (the Mk. VI) adapted for Coastal Command duties (c - designation), and in game it makes for a brutal bomber interceptor thanks to its four 20mm Hispano Mk. I Cannons and the combination of its decent acceleration and top speed above 3500m altitude.
Add to this a good performance threshold at speeds of 400-500km/h, and the Beaufighter can catch a number of its mono-engine fighter foes by surprise, even out-turn some energy fighters in the right circumstances.
Yet, due to this rather crucial need for space to build altitude and energy (due to the moderate, yet poor by comparison with Mono-Engine Fighters, climb rate), if one closes down on the Beaufighter in a turn fight, and forces it to lose altitude and energy, the Beaufighter becomes easy pray as the rear 7.7mm acts only to warm you of potential pursuers, and to shake off the weaker targets such as the F2A-3 Buffalo.
Set-up:
20mm Cannons: Stealth Belts
7.7mm Turret: AP Belt
Gun Convergence: 500m
Fuel Load: 1 hour
