Warhammer End Times - Vermintide beta - I5 4690K & GTX 770 - FPS test and settings
Greetings, everyone.
Today I bring you another FPS test and performance / settings analysis video, this time for the beta of Warhammer End Times – Vermintide, a game developed by Fatshark which is very action oriented and is based around the concept of defeating waves of enemies, very much like the Left 4 Dead series but with some interesting differences, like the fact that this game is actually pretty melee focused, with the option to use some ranged weapons as well as an alternative.
In this video I test all the graphical presets available in the current beta build I have, which was updated on October 5th, and I try as good as possible to always run, more or less, the same path from the start of the first level so we can at least have some half decent comparison on the different settings.
As usual, my current PC specs are the following:
-CPU: i5 4690K@4.4 GHz (Turbo).
-Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger.
-GPU: Asus GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2 GB with no extra OC.
-RAM: 16 GB DDR3@1866, 9-10-9-28.
-Storage: Kingston SSDNow 300, 240 GB where both game and O.S. are installed.
-O.S: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with latest updates.
The order in which I test the presets is from Extreme to Medium and as we can see on the video the Extreme preset uses more than 2 GB of VRAM, but the game looks quite good of course. It’s not unplayable on this preset on my system but I really get severe FPS drops on huge waves of enemies, but still a bit over 30 FPS on those extreme situations.
On the High preset though, we can get like around 60-70 FPS with dips to the 40-50’s in combat and it still looks decent. The game suggests that the Extreme texture setting is only worth it for higher resolutions like 4K, as well, so at 1080p which is what we tested, it looks fine on High.
Medium gives us more FPS of course but we’re already losing a bit of quality, especially textures on the characters, but if you don’t care about that, it runs quite a lot better on this preset and honestly it doesn't really look bad at all.
Low and Lowest are very much alike when it comes to performance but, at lowest setting, the lighting is very low quality and it looks quite worse than the other presets. Textures look pretty bland and bad on these settings too, and I don’t show any of these two settings in the video, anyway, since I didn’t want to make it too long.
And finally, I tweak a bit the High preset and I choose a couple settings I can put a notch lower to achieve a bit better performance without sacrificing much detail, and those are what I’d call my custom optimal settings, for now. You can still tweak them even further if you so desire, or if you dislike certain things like SSAO, shadows or things like that, which will boost performance when lowering / disabling them.
As always with betas, keep in mind these numbers are not final and I’ve only done this to give you guys an indication on what kind of performance to expect on a system like mine.
I hope this video may be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you next time : )
