WedSNESday: Let's Play Todd McFarlane's Spawn: The Video Game
This WedSNESday, put on your black trenchcoats and start blasting some grunge rock because it's time to head back to the 90s-est of 90s comics, Todd McFarlane's Spawn, and his SNES adaptation. Spawn was one of those properties that was just so heavily informed by the era it came from, and people Matt & Luke's ages lived right through the middle of that in their formative years. So this week, we share Spawn, the video game.
"Todd McFarlane's Spawn: The Video Game" was released in 1995, developed by Ukiyotei, published by Sony Electronic Publishing and distributed by Acclaim Entertainment for the SNES. Based on the early parts of the Spawn Comic book, it features the Al Simmons incarnation of Spawn, apparently trying to save the lives of endangered children. It is an old-fashioned platforming beat 'em up, released to mixed reviews, but holds the accolade of being the first game based on the wildly popular (at the time) comic license.
WedSNESday is the Level 0 NPCs weekly series where we play one older game for one episode, just to relive the nostalgia and maybe make your hump day just a little bit more fun.
