In this lecture we discussed the structure of sphingolipids which are an important class of lipids especially in nervous system. The central alochol in sphingolipids is sphingol which contains 18 carbon atoms .
Sphingol reacts with fatty acids through amide linkage and form ceramide which is common in all sphingolipids.
