What You Should Know About Breakwaters | Exploration and Giant Titans!
Some of the mechanics of Breakwaters has to be seen to be believed. Simply put, stunning island and water physics linked in with some cool building and fighting mechanics, but then these giant titans that are disrupting the very lands and waters around you. It's too cool!

When i first saw breakwaters, I thought it looked like a pretty, but perhaps generic island builder. And then I saw this little clip from the kickstarter trailer, and yeh I think the idea of having huge aggresive titans raising from the depths of the oceans was enough to grab my attention. Let's look at what we know so far leading up to the release of breakwaters on steam. If you like the video, then leave a comment.
It's kind of interesting that the developers have thrown breakwaters under the category of being an ocean simulator and I think that's probabaly a bit of a flex from them in regards to how impressive the island and water physics looks, especially when being interrupted by giant lasers mouth attacks, but I'd be pretty comfortable labelling this game as a cool mixture of exploration and survival, with a whole lot of building elements as well. Kind of like valheim, but kinda very much not like valheim as well.
You launch onto a procedurally generated world and get the chance to play online with co-op or smash it out in single player. Everything looks pretty peaceful and sweet, but as we saw earlier, there are these giant artefacts from a dead civilisation that roam beneath the water, and they kind of spend their time showing up and trying to smash down everything that you've made. Sounds fun right?!
There's some definite magical elements at play with the exploration in breakwaters and we've seen footage and heard details about collecting crystals which can be refined into potions that let us, kind of just make the water go somewhere else. It looks really cool!
If you're like me, you will be really keen to get stuck into the world building elements, and there's some real creativity at play here with the possibility to create your own home, both on lands or atop the water, and then get stuck into things like designing your farming. I really get the feeling that if you're playing co-op here, half your crew will be off fighting and taking out golems and titans, and the other half will have lost themselves into cutting down trees and making that island feel real homely. You know which type of player you will be!
Breakwaters is releasing onto early access on steam this coming November 11th. I'm curious to know your thoughts on this one, and if you're looking for another November release, check out the quick video I did all about Among Trees, which is also coming very soon!
