This game shouldn't work, but it does, and I might say this could be the most addictive and rage inducing game I've played since the original battle royale games started getting, just slightly popular.
It's scrabble, and it's a battle royale, and if that idea makes a lot of sense to you right away, then you're probably a lot smarter than i am, and most definitely will have a lot more success than I do. But hey, i've gotten two 2nds now, which is much better than my starting rounds where i was dying before even working out how you get eliminated! It's babble royale, and it's pretty cool!
So you fly into this scrabble map with nothing but a few tiles, your starting letter, and a dream to defeat every other word creating foe out there. You do this by creating words, gaining levels which gives you cash to spend, and then doing things like expanding the size of your letter board or buying power ups that will help you along the way. Unlike normal scrabble though, in this game you will not be able to build wherever you like. Indeed you will have one active word that will stand out due to it's bright colours, and if someone manages to build onto your active word, your done for, game over, it's over. This can be really depressing when someone lands right next to you and immediately places a 2 letter word that you're pretty sure doesn't exist. But that's part of the fun. You will be getting lots ofg words you've never heard of, and very quickly taking advantage of them to eliminate your opponent.
When i started this game I thought it would be a free for all in a bit of a race to build as many words as possibly. But it's not like that at all. You do need to build words to get points, level up and get that cash, but each word you create is a chance for other players to jump in and build onto your word. This becomes very strategic towards the end, where the player board starts to shrink, like in true battle royale fashion, and you're choosing between dying to the zone, or giving the other player some letters to work with. I actually cursed out loud playing here, thought I was a good chance to get my first win!
There's something about babble royale that makes it really fun. Maybe it's the clever mechanics and the merging of two very familiar genres into one very unfamiliar one. It's free on steam, and those who like word based games with some serious tactics would be well worth jumping in. It's a bit of a learning curve, But I've found that after 30 minutes or so the games starting making a lot of sense, and I started looking for those eliminations, and getting some too. There's a rush in taking out another player with nothing but letters.
hey check out babble royale and let me know how you find it!
