In this more personal talk, I discuss one of the philosophers who has been and continues to be a major influence on my own thought and development, the French 19th-20th Century Catholic philosopher, Maurice Blondel.
I discuss his role in philosophy, a few key ideas of his work, why I first fell into studying Blondel, and what I find so interesting about his thought. Blondel is a dialectical philosopher, sometimes called the "French Hegel" or the "Catholic Hegel". In this talk, I touch on my dissertation, talk about translating Blondel, mention how he is the "philosopher of Vatican II", and recommend a recent philosophical biography of Blondel by Oliva Blanchette.
