Why is Anno 117 getting TRASHED on Steam?
1,697Anno 117: Pax Romana has been met with a very mixed, mostly negative response since the early access (free, public) demo released on September 2. In this video I'm taking a look at WHY. What are the main criticisms of Anno 117's demo version, and how might they reflect on the full release in November? In the first Chapter - Content Restrictions - I'll discuss that perplexing 1 hour limit on each demo playthrough, and some of the other limitations around load/save, population tier limits, and some missing options. In essence, I fear the time limit is particularly unforgiving for new players as it forces rushed decision making and does not give any player enough time to savor the moment or explore the depth of Anno 117's early game.
In the second chapter I shift focus away from the demo's content restrictions, and towards the broader gameplay critiques and issues. Bascially - demo aside, why do people hate Anno 117? Is Anno 117 good? The main criticisms are a familiar story to me... it's the UI. It's bugged, it's plain, and a little restrictive at times. I'll also touch on my personal issues with the game options/ resolution, as well as some potential performance problems that some people have reported. FInally, I'll wrap it all up! This is lesser of an Anno 117 review (it's just the free demo!) or preview, and more of an early impressions look at the main critiques. On balance, I agree with many of the issues, but I really don't think they warrant such low review scores for a new city-builder rts game that actually has some very fun features. I'm thrilled to see both Latium and Albion make it into this free preview too! And c'mon... it's free.
