Why You Have Low Views And Subscribers When Your Content Is Great
How can a channel create consistent high-quality content and still have relatively low views per video and total subscribers? In today's video, I'll explain exactly why this is the case for Alloy Seven and how my knowledge and experience can help you avoid a similar fate or, like us, thrive in it's midst.
In Alloy Seven's case, you have to consider 3 factors:
1. Target Audience - Good
2. Content Management Strategy - Was Bad for 2 Years
3. Time - The Universal Ingredient
When it comes to Target Audience, although many people know Alloy Seven for our reviews, let's plays and community discussions, we are most well known for our teaching videos on YouTube. The pool of viewers looking for this type of content is relatively small. The pool is even smaller when you consider the fact that our teaching centers on gaming. hence the lower-than-expected view and subscriber count.
Simply, Alloy Seven primarily serves a niche audience, so our growth potential, at least in the education vein, has a much lower ceiling than say a creator who focuses on uploading daily Minecraft let's plays. Even my mentor's channels only hover around 100,000 subscribers.
In terms of Alloy Seven's content management strategy, the simple truth is that we didn't have a content management strategy for the better part of two years. I always had the vision to have a positive impact on people's lives, but I didn't have a plan for how to do it with content. As such, I hooked people with quality reviews, but then turned them away with various other types of videos that they didn't want to see because they saw now value in them.
This turned potential subscribers away.
So, after two years of goofing off, I decided to apply solid business principles I'd learned throughout my career to Alloy Seven; to stop running it like a hobby and to run it more like one of my businesses. As a result, our growth trajectory has taken off in the last few months, but it looks small compared to what one would think after 3 years in the game. (remember, two of those years were spent goofing around).
