Why You Should Use Interpolation on Jazz Standards. Wheel of Harmony #3.
In this video we discuss an amazing jazz harmonic technique: Interpolation. This technique is found in many different genres, from jazz to pop to classical.
We demonstrate how to use interpolation in the jazz standard "Oleo". Interpolation is often used over a dominant chord creating a 2 5 when there was only a 5 chord present. It creates a more interesting harmonic path than a simple V chord.
Wheel of harmony is a music theory series where we pick a harmonic technique at random (out of 12 essential harmonic techniques) and then teach the music concept and show examples where these techniques appear in jazz standards. We also apply the current jazz harmonic technique to a jazz standard to teach you how it works, and how to use it over different harmonic progressions.
