Most D&D campaign settings are a copy of Tolkien which is in essence a copy of mythologies and folk lore. If you want to create unique gaming experiences you need unique campaign settings. Adventures that are rooted in a campaign setting no one has seen before with new interpretations of dungeons and dragons monsters and races will help your players to have a new sense of wonder and exploration. Try running a science fantasy version of D&D instead something generic. Or you could even go the other way and have campaign setting that is more historical in nature. Or mash-up crazy themes like a fantasy horror western game.
