This second mayor boss encounter reminded me of the Gorignak rock monster from Galaxy Quest, a movie a happened to see again recently. Except Thardus here, is far deadlier! Vid timeline:
(0:00) Intro and en route to Quarantine Cave.
(16:08) Saving and accessing Quarantine area.
(20:11) Aran Samus vs Thardus: first attempt.
This massive rock monster has to be shipped away piece by piece, before it's core becomes vulnerable. There's a process to it however. And using the Thermal Vision will help pinpoint the next vulnerable piece.
That monster has an attack pattern. And I eventually realized that getting encased with ice triggered it's ball form attached. I just didn't focused on avoiding the ice attack given that it was a non-lethal. Bad call as it turned out.
Then the monster called in a thick mist when I got pissed, making things trickier.
Another thing was that I realized the guided rocks that it throws are not only destroyable, but the drop items when taken out.
(39:49) Aran Samus vs Thardus: second attempt.
While I clearly did way better here by predicting and adapting to Thardus moves, I realized it was better to jump instead of Morph Balling out of it's way when the rock monster charged at me in it's own ball form after all.
(53:09) Spider Ball acquired.
As expected, the Spider Ball came before the Grapple Hook.
