While I've played through The New Order on PC, I hadn't tried out the console versions of the game until I grabbed a heavily discounted copy from the PSN Store yesterday. The game's detailed and cinematic presentation looks great on my 1080p TV, and - at least judging by previous videos of the game uploaded to this channel in 2014 - the flexible idTech-based engine runs better than it did on the computer I had at the time of the game's original release.

The opening of The New Order is as gruesome and depressing (from a narrative perspective) as I remembered it to be, but I'm a little surprised by the welcome lack of bullet sponges among the regular soldiers. Stealth takedowns and well-placed headshots give the player a real opportunity to get through many situations cleanly and without prolonged firefights. The automatic lean functionality also comes in handy, even though it's a little weird to be relying on cover in a shooter which also lets the player equip double shotguns...
