Upon revisiting the asylum level in Wolfenstein: The New Order, I was immediately struck by composer Mick Gordon's sick droning guitars and horror-tinged strings (later accompanied by some equally unnerving percussion). The entire level takes place in broad daylight, and this only underlines the sheer ghastliness of the Nazi atrocities at the mental institution. Whereas the prologue set in 1946 mixed outlandish sci-fi props with familiar war movie tropes, the asylum map serves as the game's brutally effective introduction to what fascism means for everyday life (i.e. "The New Order").
