Full playthrough / longplay / trueplay of the arcade version of Wonder Boy in Monster Land. This playthrough comes from the 2007 release of SEGA AGES 2500 Series Vol.29 Monster World Complete Collection on the PlayStation 2 and this super play is included on the disc, along with a few other runs. It is credited to Y. Nakamura (IML-UUU) and the final score is 8035280, this playthrough uses all the various tricks to max the available gold possible. As with the original game, you can't continue in the final castle so you have one chance at defeating the meka dragon.

The collection only included the Japanese release of the game. The English release didn't surface until 2009 on Wii Virtual console, it did have a test release, as our editor played it back in the late 1980s in the UK. Then never saw it again for 20 odd years and it wasn't one of the naff bootleg version either, so might have been a test site. Wonder Boy in Monster Land was clearly inspired by Zelda II along with The Tower of Druaga and ended up being a very unique arcade game as it crossed platformer with RPG. Something few arcade games have done since.

It's a great game with hours of depth and secrets to discover, something very tricky to do in an arcade. It's a true classic, but always felt better as a home game.
